You can TELNET to well.sf.ca.us and sign on as "newuser". The rates
are $2.00 per hour and it is well worth it. If you do not have
TELNET access, you can connect through Compuserve's netnork--
call your local CIS number and at the "Host:" prompt
type "well" (instead of "CIS" which you would key if you were
going into the Compuserve information base)
connecting via CIS adds a $5.00 perhour surcharge.

The WELL stands for "Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link" and has many, many
interesting conferences.
