ART AND HOLOGRAPHY - A NEW PUBLICATION.

Many artists and critics have viewed holography as a technical circus
rather than a creative medium.

It has also been difficult to be informed about the subject with very few
quality venues for exhibitions and little critical writing on the subject.

There is now an opportunity to be accurately informed through The Creative
Holography Index, The International Catalogue for Holography.

Published four times a year, each issue features the work of eight artists,
illustrating their work (in colour), offering their own views and comments
on their work and the medium, and providing biographical details. Every
other issue contains a specially commissioned critical essay on the visual,
creative, aesthetic, social or political aspects of the medium.

The Creative Holography Index is published as individual pages for
organisation in the specially designed binder which comes with the first
issue. The aim is to provide an independent and flexible catalogue of
artists using holography as an expressive medium.

Artist have been experimenting with and exploring holography for over 20
years. In that time the medium and its creative concepts have changed
immensely. The Creative Holography Index aims to react to those changes as
they continue, to bring together, in one publication, the pioneers, the new
blood, the collections and the critical view.

It will build up into the most authoritative and definitive catalogue of
its type. The Creative Holography Index, a non-commercial project, is
published in English, distributed internationally from Germany and has been
made possible with financial support from the American Shearwater
Foundation.

The prejudice against holography is fading as the medium moves out of its
specialist centres. The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, recently
held its first exhibition of holography. The Victoria and Albert Museum,
London, has key holograms in its collection. The Museum for contemporary
Art, Karlsruhe, has an extensive collection of holography. Pieces are held
in private and public collections world wide.

The time has come to be informed about the medium - The Creative Holography
Index, The International Catalogue for Holography will give you an
intelligent and independent view - an indispensable resource
