It depends. Are you writing an Art History, Art Crit, or
some sort of Studio Art crit? If it's the third, maybe
you could consider something in the "glorified artists'
statement" range which also deals with your work in
some sort of historical or critical continuum. A warning,
though: unless your stuff is simply amazing, nothing is
more pretentious than a "my inspirations" tome. Of
course this is only my opinion, and I'm a biased Italian
Renaissance specialist...
