Summary: Animation Projekt
Keywords: ART PICT ANIMATION HAMILTON POP ART

Animate your intimate - the big movement of moving pictures
Intimidate your animator - Apocalypse is the end of all animation
Morph into art - Infect art with your personal aura
Pop into InterPop - Digitize yourself into art

Do you want become art? Use your chance!

- modify art in an international context!

- scan pictures and animate them into the pop-art picture
'Just What is it that Makes Today's Homes so Different,
so Appealing,' by Richard Hamilton

- the best animations will be shown in exhibitions in
New York, Tokio and Berlin and a video will be sent on TV
("Deutsche Welle")

- you'll get a video of the end product, if your animation
is used in the mix

- the winner can come to Berlin and sleep in one of our four
apartments

What you have to do:

Download the picture by R.Hamilton on your Computer. After this
choose the modified picture where elements are missing.
Now it's your turn: Scan whatever you have and put it in this picture with
a little animation. You can add whatever you want.
Perhaps a very personal thing?! Or a very typical item from your country.

We are four students, three at the Art School of Berlin (HdK)
and one at the technical university. We will use your material to
produce a video that will be sent worldwide over satellite on TV by "Deutsche
Welle". You can also see it in the exhibitions.

A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND

or why

"EVERYBODY IS AN ARTIST" Beuys

"ART IS LIFE" Warhol

The subject of Pop Art is the everyday myths that are created through
the images of the product and packaging industries. Kitch and
souveniers as well as the mass media all follow the principle of
permanent reproduction.
IN POP ART IMAGES ARE REPEATED OVER AND OVER AGAIN
e.g. the green coca-cola bottles by Andy Warhol, 1962

IN INTERNET WE WANT TO REPEAT
ONE OF THE MESSAGES OF POP-ART OVER AND OVER AGAIN
(In this case, Richard Hamilton's 'Just What is it that Makes Today's
Homes so Different, so Appealing?,' 1956)
Modern technology allows for the progression of Pop Art into the
digital realm and through the use of technology everybody has the
ability to become an artist.

IT'S TOO MUCH FOR US SO...

now that we have your attention, we're searching for people who are
willing to put some time and effort into helping out with the animation.
This being an INTERNATIONAL project means that we need YOU!
What we have sent over INTERNET is a well known piece of art history,
a pop-art picture from R.Hamilton that depicts a room.
We want to change and modify this piece of art history in order
to remake the art. We have eliminated various objects from the room
and what we are asking is that people bring the room to life with
objects from their respective lands and cultures. This means that
we need people to create animation segments where objects, from a
room in your house or somewhere else, are somehow brought in to the
room.
We'll gladly accept just about any means of bringing objects into
the room, but we have technical problems to deal with, so please pay attention
to the formatting instructions. Also, since it is an animation project, we don't
want you to simply scan a picture and then paste it somewhere in the room. We
will then take the various animation sequences and combine them to make an
interactive art work and a video. The various animations will be placed in the
empty room. This will create a new environment in which all cultures are
present. For the exhibitions we will produce a

n interactiveinstallation. An animation-generator will use your material to
create a few new situations and send them live on TV.
Sound and music can be used in your animations too!
In the end we'll have created a room from the various cultures.

FAME, RICHES, PRIZES

Unfortunately we're students and not rich corporate boses so we
can't offer too much. What we can offer though is

- a videotape of the finished film to everyone who's animation
piece is used
- you can stay in one of our four lovely rooms in our apartments
if you come to Berlin -- unfortunately we can't afford to
pay for you to come here (we're students after all)
- and last but not least, we may be able to pay for a visit to
Berlin for the person who sends us the best animation piece.

As for fame, for those of you who really care, the interactive piece will be
part of an international art opening and the video will be broadcast on TV.
