Announcing:

During the coming months, Carl Eugene Loeffler, Project Director,
Telecommunications and Virtual Reality, STUDIO for Creative Inquiry,
Carnegie Mellon University, will conduct the following activities:

Sponsored by the Japan Technology Transfer Association (JTTAS), Nihon
Keizai Shimbun, Inc. (NIKKEI), and in cooperation with Asahi Electronics
and Sense8, Loeffler will present distributed virtual reality
applications for the International Conference on Artificial Reality and
Tele-existence, Tokyo, Japan. Information: 81-03-3584-0207.

Following ICAT, he will make a technical presentation at Machine
Culture, Siggraph, and conduct seminars at: IEEE/CS Visual Language
Symposium, and Tele-teach 93, Norway.

Presently under construction are two new applications-- Virtual Ancient
Egypt, and the Virtual City. Intended for use in the production of a motion
picture, the City will also be expanded to serve as a Graphical User
Interface (GUI) for distributed virtual reality for consumer home
shopping and entertainment.

Tom Hargadon and Loeffler have introduced the Distributed Simulations
Research Consortium, with members in Japan, Scandinavia, and the United
States. The consortium members conduct joint research in distributed
virtual reality for education, industry, and entertainment. Information:

Final note: Carl Eugene Loeffler is recently appointed a visiting Senior
Scientist to the Center of Technology at Kjeller (UNIK and Norwegian
Telecom Research) Oslo, Norway. He will conduct joint research with
Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA.
