Announcing the AskERIC Public Access Service.

In an attempt to improve services to our users, AskERIC is now providing
access to our Electronic Library via telnet. All users have to do is:

telnet ericir.syr.edu

and login as 'gopher'

login: gopher

Once logged in users will be able to access the current AskERIC Electronic
Library (gopher), preview our new Electronic Library (gopher), ask AskERIC an
education related question (users must include their return e-mail
addresses within the body of their question), and provide comments on the
new system/library.

Please note this new service is an addition to our present offerings, and
is not intended to replace any older service.

Announcing Test Site for AskERIC's New Electronic Library

Since February of this year AskERIC has offered a Gopher/FTP service for
it's users and the Internet in general. This service has grown in a rather
disorganized fashion. We have redesigned our gopher site and are running
the new site in parallel. We are opening the new site up for comments and
tests. The site is located at:

gopher
ericir.syr.edu port 71
telnet
telnet ericir.syr.edu login as gopher

While this system is not complete, it is very usable. Please take a look at
the new site and provide any feedback to:

rdlankes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Note: There is little new data in our new site, only a new organization of
the data. There is not yet an FTP equivalent of the new site. In August
the new site, with user revisions, will be completed and replace the old
Electronic Library. At this time, FTP service will also be updated with
the new organization. The old FTP site remains.

AskERIC strives to be a user based service. We have changed and
added to our present service based on user feedback, so your comments are
vital to our new efforts.
