REQUIREMENTS
============
At least two years experience providing collection development and
information services in a museum library, other special library
related to contemporary art and museum studies, or humanities
research department of an academic or large public library; 1-2
years experience cataloging materials in an OCLC or RLIN
environment.

MLS from an Accredited graduate program; B.A in Art History, arts
administration, or other related field is highly desirable;
experience with contemporary art in gallery setting is also
desirable; familiarity with RLIN cataloging environment and
demonstrated experience with automated library systems (especially
Innovative); experience in conducting research and teaching
research strategies with print and electronic resources.

Ability to quickly understand and analyze needs of center for
curatorial studies students, faculty, and other users and to
participate as part of a team of CCS staff to aggressively develop
services. Strong research, interpersonal, presentation, and writing
skills, a must.


JOB DESCRIPTION
===============

Under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Curatorial
Studies and the Director of Libraries this Full-Time position (open
immediately) is responsible for day-to-day management of library
collections and information and research services at the center for
Curatorial studies of Bard College.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the
following:

_ Provides direct information and research services to CCS
graduate students, faculty, and scholars, administrators using
existing resources and developing new print and electronic
sources

_ Identifies opening day collection goals and establishes longer
term collection development targets that include serials,
standing orders, reference, and electronic resources,etc.

_ Coordinates all aspects of anticipated contractual cataloging
efforts

_ Performs on-going cataloging, database maintenance, and
authority work following expiration of current cataloging
contract

_ Coordinates review and selection of all library materials in
a variety of print and non-print formats

_ Establishes and maintains necessary record keeping systems
related to the receipt of library materials

_ Creates learning and research environment that provides users
with on-going orientation, bibliographic and research
instruction and other outreach services

_ Monitors Library materials budget and continued effectiveness
of allocations

_ Guides implementation of sub-contracted cataloging project-in
collaboration with main library staff---toward fully
functioning online public acess catalog

_ Conducts on-going measurement and assessment of collection
performance according to articulated collection goals and
user satisfaction

_ Acts as a liaison with the main campus library in coordinating
technical services and collection development and access
efforts, and participates in goal-setting and long-range
planning as part of the library management team

_ Makes policy recommendations, in consultation with the CCS
Director and the main library staff, regarding access to
collections, security, collection maintenance and development,
and interlibrary loan, etc.

_ Directs the work of 1-2 FTE and 1-3 Student assistants

_ Participates in other center activities and projects, as
assigned.
