I am looking for examples of design studio talk or the general studio
experience for a series of papers I am doing on arch education. Have you
any particularly memorable examples of things said to you in desk crits or
juries, or life as an arch student? As examples from the published
literature:

R We were asked to define house. I clearly remember how most of the images
we offered were categorised TbadU by our professors. Our youths became
tainted and our friends and families were ridiculed for choosing to live in
bad tasteS. [Laura Willenbrock]

or

ROne day a professor approached for a mid-project desk crit and pointed to
the model I had constructedI TIs this you?U he asked. Hoping to build a
casual rapport with this rather stern young teacher, I responded jokingly,
pointing to myself, TNo, no this is meU, then to the model, TThis is my
model.U TNo! he replied firmly, putting his hand on my model, TThis is you
and this is shit!U. It was an incredible high when the unity between self
and work brought us praise, but quite devastating when our efforts were
insultedS [Laura Willenbrock]

or

RArchitecture school was like boot camp: twelve hours a day seven days a
week in basic designI In retrospect it was the beginning of a major shift
in my educationP a totally anti-intellectual period in my life. I can
honestly say I hardly read a book in my three years of architecture schoolI
Every minute, I was being made to feel like a first-graderI My first design
instructor was a bit like a drill sergeant. YouUre more or less being
brokenIS [from Kathryn Anthony's Design Juries On Trial]

As you can see I am not exactly looking for times when the prof said how
wonderful your design was and what a sterling person you were. That I can
find anywhere. I am looking for stuff which says something about the
uniqueness of arch ed and how different the experience is from other uni
educations.

Unless you give permission, any quotes used will be ANONYMOUS.
