The following is an information about the '94 "Chinese Culture" Summer
Camp organised by the Xian Jiaotong University, one of the most prominent
universities in China. Please distribute it to those who might be

'94 "Chinese Culture" Summer Camp

- by Xian Jiaotong University (XJU), China.

A strong flavour of the oriental "Chinese Culture" Summer Camp for
the American, Europe, East and Southeast Asia students and young
people will be arranged by XJU in July, 1994. (We have arranged
several summer camps successfully so far.) In this camp, Chinese-
learning lessons will be available, every participant will be sure to
learn some Chinese conversations and characters; if you know some
Chinese, it does help you making quick progress in Chinese within a
very short time. Besides, every participant could have a variety of
choices among Chinese history and geography, Chinese Gongfu (Taiji),
cuisine for Chinese dishes and acupuncture and moxibustion of
traditional Chinese medicine. In general, participating on the scene
enables you to understand Chinese traditions and customs; colourful
and various activities and tours give you wonderful and unforgettable
memory.

The itinerary in details:

July, 5th - Arriving in Beijing. Representatives from XJU receive
the group at the airport.
July, 6-8th - Visiting places of interest in Beijing.
Including: the Forbidden City - the royal palace of both the
Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Juyongguan Pass (the Mount. Badaling),
important strategic pass of the Great wall, the Ming Tombs, the
Tiantan Temple (the Temple of Heaven), the Mount. Jingshan, the
Summer Palace and the national capital city - Beijing. Watching
the Beijing Opera.
July, 8th - Leaving for Luoyang by air or train in the afternoon.
July, 9th - Sightseeing in Luoyang - One of the six major ancient
cities in China.
Includes the Longmen Grotto - one of the four greatest treasure
houses of China's grotto art, the Museum of Han Dynasty Tombs,
and Luoyang Museum.
July, 10th - Visiting the Yellow River - The Cradle of Chinese Culture
in the morning.
Leaving for Xi'an (a well-known ancient capital city for 12
dynasties,) by train in the afternoon. Arriving in Xi'an, at night.
July, 11th - The opening Ceremony for the camp ar 10:00 am. Meeting
all the concerned teachers and consult with them the details
of the camp. A Welcoming Banquet at XJU at night.
July, 12-27th - The '94 "Chinese Culture" Summer Camp begins.
Including:- Lessons for Chinese-learning, Lectures for Chinese
history and geography, culture, traditions and customs, instructions
for Chinese Gongfu (Taiji), acupuncture and moxibustion of
traditional Chinese medicine, and cuisine for Chinese dishes.
- Visiting families, schools, universities, factories and
countryside in and near Xi'an.
- Sightseeing of lots of interest places includes the world's
"Eighth Wonder" - Terro-cotta warriors and horses, and other
natural and historical scenic spots.
- Watching performances of folk arts, especially the Tang Dynasty
Music and Dances.
July, 28th - Free
July, 29th - Leaving for the Mount. Huangshan by air.
July, 30th - Sightseeing on the Mount. Huangshan - The best of the
best mountains, Exotic pines, grotesque rock, the sea of clouds and
hot spring are the "four wonders" of it.
July, 31th - Leaving for the Qiandan Lake (A Thousand-island Lake),
the largest aquatic park in China, by bus and ship.
Aug. 1st - Sightseeing on the Qiandao Lake, a dazzlingly brilliant
pearl on the popular golden tourist line (the Mount. Huangshan -
The Qiandao Lake - Hangzhou).
Aug. 2nd - Leaving for Hangzhou - a famous garden style city in
China in the morning.
Sightseeing on the West Lake in the afternoon. It's famous for
its scenic beauty.
Aug. 3rd - Sightseeing in the Lingyin Temple (the Mounastery of Potential
Inspiration) and the Liuhe Pagoda in the morning.
Leaving for Shanghai, China's largest city, by bus in the afternoon.
Aug.4th - Visiting, going shopping in Shanghai.
Aug.5th - Leaving China from Shanghai.

Expenses - Camp activities fees ( Including the tuition etc.):
USD350 per capita
- Tour; food, lodging, transportation and service fees:
USD1,840 per capita
TOTAL - USD350 + USD1,840 = USD2,190 per capita.

The total expenses should be paid off on your arrival in Beijing.
