Title of site: Kaleidospace

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Summary: Kaleidoscope Media is proud to announce their new web server,
called Kaleidospace that provides a multimedia showcase for artists,
performers, CD-ROM authors, musicians, writers, animators, filmmakers
and software developers. (See Variety, Apr. 7th).

We are creating this site to support independent artists. Our site
has similarities to other web servers such as IUMA, but differs in
that we work with all kinds of artists, and that we process orders
for the artist's material. We are especially interested in artists
who have already produced a product they can sell, such as
an independently produced CD or video.

Each artist gets several hypertext pages including photos, bios,
reviews, interview footage, and excerpts from their art. In the case
of musicians, we provide 10-30 seconds of .aiff audio (.au and .mpg
audio to be added). For movies, we currently use quicktime "flat"
format so it (theoretically) should be readable by Windows machines.
We'll add other formats (such as mpeg) in the future. Images are
inline .gif.

Artists pay a flat fee to showcase on our site. They can submit
their material in a variety of media which we convert to the
appropriate format. We don't just work with electronic artists--
we have several pending clients who work in traditional media
such as watercolor.

Artists who work with us get free consulting on connecting to the
Internet. Of others, we provide Internet consulting and reports
for a fee.

Our site will support direct online ordering of artist's materials
displayed there in the near future. Artists supply orders to
our shipper. Companies use their own ordering/shipping systems.

We are joining the emerging community of Internet-based companies,
such as marketplace.com.

We are interested in working with other groups, both commercial and
noncommercial, who are bringing art to the Internet. On one of our
sections, "newsstand", we feature interviews with web personalities
and high-profile artists, who donate their service. This month's
interview is with science fiction writer David Brin, discussing
the interactions of art, technology, and society.

We are in the process of implementing a mail server for people who
don't have full Internet access.
