architecture and shadow

I was just wondering how many architects actualy design with the
shadow. In other words having a particular shape(s) of shadow(s) they
would like to have and then design to get it,in a project(s)? Does any-
body make the shadow a thematic issue in thier design? Or are shadows
even taken into account when designing or are they just accidents?

I would appreciate any feedback (I am researching)
or any architects in particular to examine...
