The term comes from the Ecole de Beaux Arts. Students were assigned a
problem and were to finish it before the Charette (a cart for drawings)
rolled around. Because of this the term is applied to a design session
which is usually rather intense and limited in time. It is NOT the final
jury or "crit". I have heard that at Ecole de Beaux Arts students had
little participation in the final jurying of their projects.
