A reminder from UIAH
UIAH has two international conferences in June & August
1.) DESIGN - PLEASURE OR RESPONSIBILITY? - An International Conference
The University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH
21-22 June 1994
The University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH is organising and
international conference on cultural issues in design. Questions relating
to ethics, environmental studies and product semantics will be of
particular interest.
The Conference aims to create a platform for the
analysis and juxtapostion of recent trends. Seven keynote speakers and
some 40 seminar and symposium lecturers from 18 countries will view the
new contexts for design both as a praxis and as a cultural and commercial
entity defining the future of the material world in urban culture.
The keynote speakers are: Alberto Alessi, Klaus Krippendorff, Kenji Ekuan,
Richard Buchanan, Larry Keeley, Anthony Jones and Victor Margolin.
Alter the Conference there will be two parallel symposia on 23 June 1994.
Symposium 1: Design Thinking - Expressive Solutions aiming to discuss the
object of design.
Symposium 2: Breaking the Boundaries? Discussing Design Criticism in the
1990s.
BEFORE the Conference the University hosts a pre-conference workshop 'The
Semantic Interface'in the beautiful countryside of Finland.
2.) INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COLOUR EDUCATION
University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH 16-19 August 1994
In August the University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH is organising an
international conference on Colour Education.The aim of the conference is
to review the current state of colour teaching and its role in art and
design education, to examine critically the position of established
theories of colour in the visual arts and to provide and international
forum for the exchange of ideas on teaching colour.
The Conference is intended primarily for teachers, students and
researchers of colour in degeree-level art, design and architecture
schools, as well as for designers, artists and professionals with an
interest in the multifaceted world of colour.
The keynote speakers, coming from Europe and the United States, all
represent the highest expertise in their field:
Ellen Marx, France; Michel Albert-Vanel, France; Hans Joachim Albrecht,
Germany; Juhana Blomstedt, Finland; Nicholas Fox Weber, USA; Leonhard
Lapin, Estonia and Moritz Zwimpfer, Switzerland.
