The ArtMetal Project is a volunteer venture of a group of metalsmiths
and organizations who strive to discuss and disseminate information
concerning various aspects of working artistically with metal such as
(but not limited to): blacksmithing/forging, metal shaping & joining
(by hot &/or cold methods), jewelry making, the coloration of metals,
casting, metal spinning, sheet metal work, architectural fabrication;
purchasing and/or reconditioning of metalworking tools and machinery;
interesting projects; reviews of books on metal technologies and
history, classes, exhibit opportunities, etc. We even store individual
artists work for display in the ArtMetal Gallery.

ArtMetal is bringing to the Net a main location for the world wide
archiving of metalworking information. The core for storage of this
information is currently at Washington University's wuarchive. ArtMetal
is the facilitator for maintaining the information for all related
organizations and also publishes an interesting newsletter.

Spectators are welcome. Feel free to browse the archives and gallery.
Let the artists know what you think of their efforts. If you have any
metalworking information on classes, exhibit opportunities, or general
interests, you are welcome to upload it to the ArtMetal archives. Just
anonymous FTP to: wuarchive.wustl.edu/edu/arts/metal and GET the file
ArtMetal_info.txt. This file will give you "How To Contribute"
information.

The ArtMetal Project is just now (8/3/94) getting under way. We could
use some help! It is hard to contact all metalworking artists and
organizations. Regardless of the metal discipline we work in, our
philosophy is to share information, and further the exposure of this
wonderful medium to the public. If you can help us, please drop us a
line.

e-mail: ArtMetal@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ArtMetal is also on the World Wide Web. We have established links with
the archives and artists' portfolios. Be forewarned, since this is the
start of this archive, only the Artist Gallery is being developed.
Anyway, our hopes are high and the artwork on display is GREAT!

ArtMetal invites the mirroring of it's archives to other FTP sites and
the extension of ArtMetal to more BBS systems across the globe. We're
specifically looking for outlets on America On Line, CompuServe, The
WELL, Prodigy, and other online systems. If you can help, please email
us. If nothing else, feel free to post this file to the discussion
areas of those systems.
