The following is entitled _Aerosoul Nation_ and is authored by Los
Angeles-based artist Robert Rubalcava. I find it poetically correct.
Aerosoul Nation
I will not paint landscapes for landscapes do not exist in my world.
I will not do abstractions for my community is faced with reality.
I will not be conceptual bcause my pain and anger are not hallucinations.
I will not enter ivory towers with their glass cielings and revolving doors.
They will not let me enter because my work is not a theoretical concept
or a consumer product.
I will write by teh light of the moon--uninhibited and uncensored--so
that no one will misunderstand me.
The first paintings were on walls.
Animals painted on cave walls telling clans where and what type of food
was available.
Then stories and histories were engraved in pyramid stones for mental food.
People have been painting funtional pieces since man stood tall and ...
Graffitti art is similar.
It is a self-portrait of an urban youth, an aborted youth.
Youth with no Parenting, pushed out of school, no sense of history,
trying to escape with drugs, living in polluted environments...
i could go on forever .
Ironically, people pay millions to uncover those primordial pictures
And pay millions to whitewash mine.
Why do we treat one of the only true indigenous U.S. art forms with such
disgust?
Why do we import diversity when it is in our own home?
Why is our youth in such disarray?
The aerosoul notion can help us see that the world is a canvas with many
colors and cultures.
Because you can't close your eyes and make it go away.
