"Invasive engineering" is a great term. Someone should do a book on these
projects of arrogance and destruction. Aswan (Egypt) comes to mind as being
one of the more spectacular examples. Also the sea walls along the Carolina
coast, futile attempts to "engineer" the Atlantic Ocean.
