Re: green buildings in europe

First off, isn't there anything more interesting to gab about than "green
buildings in europe"? I do notice that this is just a convenient sub-
heading for reply, but every single post? C'mon guys, live a little.

Second, in 'concepts of modern art', edited by nikos stangos, 1974 Penguin
Books, in the section on De Stijl by Kenneth Frampton (pg. 141), he writes:

The De Stihl movement came into being as the conflation of two related modes
of thought. These were, firstly the Neo-Platonic philosophy of mathematician
Dr. Schoenmaekers who published in Bussun, in 1915 and 1916 respectively, his
influential works titled 'The New Image of the World' and 'The Principles of
Plastic Mathematics and secondly the 'receciced' architectural concepts of
Hendrik Petrus Berlage and Frank Lloyd Wright.

Mark is right, the Wasmuth volumes did break Wright into the Euro-circut,
and into the De Stihl movement.

Lastly, today I went to MoMA to see first hand some of the De Stihl paintings
by Mondrian and Van Doesburg for a project I was just assigned in grad
school here at NJIT. I must say, no one can talk about De Stihl, nor truly
experience it without seeing the original works of art. This is one of the
few cases where any reproduction loses about 90% of the content of the work--
and I say this because the works are so easily mis-perceived as prints
because of their graphic nature. These are paintings... and even in
Modrian's most extreme attempts to conceal brushstrokes, they still feel
like paintings (never mind the fact that most reproductions horribly
translate the colors). The works lose their edge when seen in person.
They become real. It is a phenomenon I have never exeperienced in my museum
attending career-- and I can see how these super-mechanistic works can be
considered for discussion in a "green"-speak buzzword chat. Like has been
said: let's leave the green-speak behind, since it will fail just as
miserably as the International Style failed to repair all of the world's ills.

"Great architects are notoriously lax and irresponsible.
There is so much more of the artist than the business-
man that they brush economy aside in their mad desire to
attain beauty." - Whistler in 'Vanbrugh, Arch/Dramatist'

POINT TO PONDER:
If the Dark Side in Star Wars was based on the Nazis(Stormtroopers, Hitleresque
Vader), then were the Stormtroopers color schemes (White/Black) based on
Modern (Bauhaus) Architecture, or on the star field (much the same way that army
green came about)?????
