I enjoyed Mark Darrall's post a great deal, but I personallyu can't allow
a dialectic between -Democracy vs. Socialism - to go unchallenged. To
speak of Wright as an evalg/evangelist for Democratic ideals seems to be
very strained. Certainly, you can see him as a protagonist of Individualism,
but not popular democracy.

Actually, neither De Stijl(van't Hoff, von Deusberg, Mondrian, etc.) nor
Wright are good examples af architrecture drawn from democratic beliefs.
Which goes to show that great earchitecture is not always derived from
great belief systems.

There is architecture that does come from what is probably best called
"cellular" democracy. The Vienese Jugenstijl and the Bremen commune. Both
of these constructs are results of much more participatory decision-making.
I Frankly haven't seen much "democratic" architure. Maybe that should be
another thread.
