bayer, moholy-nagy, and composition theory

my main interest in life is written composition pedagogy and theory. my minor
interest is design and art history.

i am preparing to give a talk about how theory at the bauhaus can be used to
enlighten theory at writing centers.

i've got it all nailed down except what to say about the social consciousness
of bauhaus theory -- that which says that one should design in response to a
perceived need in society.

does the parallel work? can you say that one should only write in response to
the social context? thoughts on this end are very welcome. Very cool insights
will be incorporated, with permission, and with full credit, in a paper to be
given at the Midwest Writing Center Association Conference.

My colleagues find the parallel too socialist for their tastes. thoughts are
welcome.
