Welcome to McCarthyism - 90s style. Truly -- words like socialism, communism,
Marxism etc.are, at best, out of fashion - and, at worst, can be used against
you in
promotion and tenure decisions. It's all part of the selective rewriting of
history according to the New World Order. You can either play the game, or
challenge it. I prefer the latter, but you'll need a 4X4 off-the-road vehicle
for this. Read Elaine Hochman's "Architects of Fortune: Mies van der Rohe
and the Third Reich" to understand how Mies tried desperately (and
hopelessly) to restore the "neutrality" of the Bauhaus. It didn't work
because of the *intrinsic* connections between the artistic and social
agendas of the school.
