Even worse (in terms of the recognized need for broad-based education) is the
5 + 1 or 5 + 1 1/2 M.Arch. Probably half of the faculty teaching in the US
have no more than this narrow-based, professionally-oriented education.

ACSA (Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture) defines the "terminal
degree" required for
teaching as the first professional degree (B. Arch.) plus an advanced
degree *in any field*. In other words, someone with a B. Arch. plus, say, a one
-year M. A. in art history is supposedly qualified to teach architecture, by
ACSA's definition.
