the listserver threatens to tear and split, violently
decapitating text until it must be fed even more bombastic
input. UUencoded bulldozers from the jaws of /tmp, delicate
text about wounds and healing disfigured into an arbitrary 7
bit coding, all caps and incoherent symbols.
It eludes commentary. Is it then crap, as someone's inane
response to Knut's (not "Elizabeth") obscured text? Or is
commentary the real virus, the real threat to the supremacy of
the text? Can commentary even exist to this triumph of the
technology of text over the content? The beauty of UUencoding
lies in the devastation of content by form. To decipher it is
not necessarily the correct response. If you print it out you
will find that it is indeed unspeakable. The text becomes a
wound with no memory of healing. It screams because it knows
no other mode of existence. It must be hidden away and
forgotten.
