Yes, I think that you r analogy to a "cage of trained animals" is quite
appropriate.
Certainly, there are unpredicted behaviours, either threw oversight or intention
on the part of the authors, but to describe the act of programming as the
design of "trained animals" which perform within a cage is quite appropriate.
