"The opportunities for self motivated individuals were great."

"The strength of Gensler is its diversity, so moving through its studios is important. It's also a global firm, and moving up can be accelerated by helping to start up a new office."

"The firm works across the economy. Doesn't do housing in the U.S. Never does prisons. Everything else, pretty much, is on the table, but commercial work - core & shell and interiors - predominates."

"It has specific programs, including coaching and leadership training, to help with this process."

"The culture of the firm is friendly, open, and supportive. People here have a positive, entrepreneurial spirit."

"The workplace here is spectacular, a loft setting overlooking the south waterfront of San Francisco - view of the Bay Bridge and Yerba Buena Island. It's a lovely place, a five-minute walk from the Ferry Building. And the working conditions and resources are amazing. It makes for a very productive office and good morale."

"The firm was less prepared for the recession than others, because it suffered relatively less in the early nineties and relatively more this time. The resulting learning curve was problematic, because it involved a lot of layoffs - something that was antithetical to the culture. As the firm's recovered, a lot of people have been hired back, the culture is being rebuilt. A move in February 2003 helped a lot, sort of closing the door on two not so hot years."
