Goa kite carnival on the Miramar beach immediately takes over from the international film festival (IFFI) on December 10. Huge western kites made of rip-stop nylon and carbon graphite spars in all kinds of shapes and sizes and kites shaped like birds, bees, human forms and geometric designs in vibrant colours will fill up the Goan sky.

After the 11-day IFFI from November 29 to December 9, the kite festival will screen films and present an array of aerial display of kite ballet, kite surfing and skating and fly stacks of kites with as many as 200 kites on a single line. The three- day show from December 10 to 12 has been organised by Nomad travels and Nomad heritage trust and presented by IFFI in association with department of tourism, says Ajay Prakash of Nomad.

The Seattle based Drachen foundation devoted to preservation and dissemination of kite knowledge will exhibit exotic kites and film/slide shows - film on kite aerial photography (KAP) of humpback whales off the coast of Mexico. A slide show on the gigantic tetrahedral cell kites made and flown by Alexander Graham Bell, better known as the inventor of the telephone will also be screened.

The festival organisers are committed to tourism and have been putting up the unique show in Jodhpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Agra, Lucknow with international participation during the last seven years. A workshop with the students of Goa college of art and Goa college of architecture will exposed students to the art and architecture of kite design and aesthetics, says Prakash.
