Re: [design] crossology

i am interested now in doing a series of
distribution poles made up of letters, and
instead of just doing the english alphabet,
i am wondering about other languages/forms,
though to do with letters/numbers. i think
claes oldenburg proposed buildings as giant
lettershapes, and i've wanted to make some
distribution poles like these for a while...
though i wonder what chinese and-or other
characters may be interesting, graphically
and also symbolically, possibly (such as a
character for 'electric' or 'energy' or if
there is something that works both in terms
of a structure (to carry lines) and as an
aesthetic form, integrated into an electric
distribution pole. so too with Islamic or
Arabic lettering and calligraphy, though i
have no ideas of how to choose or even find
appropriate symbols (ones that are not in
any way offensive, as i do not understand
the languages and thus want to be sure the
symbols are what i think they are, say if
if it is for 'cosmos'). curious if anyone
has suggestions, if so, please e-mail me.
these would then be proposed as alternative
ways for designing e-distribution poles,
more in terms of culture and architecture,
so that this is reflected in local poles...
(as a way of defining unique space-times)...
thanks. brian
