i am thinking that it may be worth trying to
compose a diagrammatic model/graphic of how
the facets of designing/building/architecture
fit/relate together in the real world. i do
not know anything except the immediate inter-
face of citizen on the street. though it may
be possible to diagram what architecture is,
consists of, functions as, in relation to
development, real estate, construction,
engineering services (structural, fire),
such as to get a 'plan' of 'the architect'
in such a corporate/professional context.
i do not know enough on my own to draw any
diagrams, though right away it would seem
to be between development and architecture
at some level (is real estate within this,
or a separate category?). and i wonder what
development is for, its purpose, is it its
eternal mission to machinate landscapes, to
fold upon the maw of violent artifice, etc.
if a (infra/other) structure could be seen,
visualized, it would be interesting to get
a sense of what professional architects see,
in relation to what would work a lot better.
being ignorant it is easy for me to wonder
about the possibilities with development as
a way to get people who have money to maybe
do things that need doing, a cultural profit,
in the most general sense that this is what
there is to work with, how things function,
but that may be a moral/ethical blowout if
those compromises are ruining architecture,
say. though i do not understand how it is
so clear, when the institutions are bereft
of voices that challenge things as they are.
how could architecture and development work
together towards better ends, or is this at
the heart of things like new urbanism where
the architect possibly becomes the developer
and what was a particular solution becomes
a (modernist) master plan whose ill effects
may not be considered after devilish dealing.
i do not know enough to know, one way or the
other. though i'd like to learn more about
these areas and so ask, as 'development' is
very abstract for me, in the sense of how
it ties everything together (media, codes,
real estate, construction, banks, etc.).
or is this not even a legitimate approach,
is it another paradigm of interactions, is
it more immediate or more abstract than is
something just to transfer to an ignoramus,
such that it takes years to see how all of
the puzzles fit together to realize it is
at the crux of the current ongoing malaise.
whatever it is, i am interested in knowing.
