Call for Papers
Computing in Architectural Design: Re-Thinking the Discourse

Second International Conference of
The Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design
(ASCAAD 2006)

Hosted by
School of Architecture and Design
American University of Sharjah, UAE
25-27 April, 2006

The influence of digital media and information technology on
architectural design education and practice is increasingly evident.
The ever-advancing digital technologies are dramatically challenging
fundamental assumptions, theories and practices of conventional design
paradigm. The proliferation of computers and telecomputing in design
education and practice has resulted in a major paradigm shift and a
reorientation in theoretical and conceptual assumptions considered to be
central to design education and practice. In contrast, architectural
design discourse is still dominated by the prevailing conventional
analogue paradigm which puts great constraints on our understanding of
recent developments in teaching and practicing design.

The theme of the 2006 conference is "Computing in Architectural Design:
Re-Thinking the Discourse". This captures the role of the conference as
a forum to debate and reconsider current understandings of digital
design. The conference aims to provide the participants an occasion to
share and exchange experiences and research findings, and to stimulate
more ideas and useful insights regarding newly introduced developments
in design computing and their impact on architectural design education
and practice.

Topics of Interest

We invite participants to submit papers in all areas related to
computing in architectural design, and particularly work focusing on
bridging the gap between theory and practice. Topics of interest

Important Dates

Deadline for abstracts: September 15, 2005
Paper submission: October 30, 2005
Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2005
Deadline for final papers: January 30, 2006

Type of Papers and Submission

Two types of papers could be submitted: papers that describe practical
applications or completed research and short papers that describe
research in progress. Abstract submission must be in English with about
800 words. Full paper submission could be either in English or Arabic.
Full paper submissions should be sent in Word document format.
