Re: [design] NeoClassical Chili

neoclassical chili (only three of the four panels shown in the link) was a fun project, our group, however, never did win any trophies for the chili. a design firm with its owners born in iowa couldn't possibly win a trophy for making texas chili so the playing field wasn't level. its context seems applicable to todays happenings. the panels were painted by the designers in our design office at the time (about 5, i think, the documentation i have for it is buried in a real world filing cabinet).

your link to hadrian's munus is very appropriate and i totally agree about how the past is reflected in today's world. the illustration of the site is so revealing, especially the shape of an angel. analogies become evident to me often, especially with teaching some of the content, so the ideas get cultivated as "ancient" material is presented to students....since they are beginning community college learners, i may get a much different level of analogy than my students do. and i read - rather scanned very quickly- the links you provided in an earlier email about the romans - spectaculis before posting the comments about Christians.
regarding the historical accuracy of written history - there was a piece on NPR on july 4 concerning the accuracy of the battle of little big horn. apparently, archaeologiest have determined the battle wasn't all that spectacular - through analyzing bullet casings and their locations, it seems to have been a very small event. the reality its just another myth like the cherry tree....fun and entertaining stories like grimms - to be told around the campfire but not taken as historical fact.

interesting notion of a show of design-l art. were you thinking this would be an online exhibit? i've looked at some of brians and brads work, and your No Doubt the Artist Suffered as Well...featuring tech workers and the Pieta.
all nice work!
