Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP): Executive Director (New York, NY)

Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP) is a not-for-profit organization supporting preservation, cataloging and access of independent media. Its initiatives include a preservation website; Cataloging Templates for film, video and audio; and development of a registry of obsolete playback equipment.

We're seeking a visionary leader who can take this organization to the next level. This is presently a part-time position based in New York City, which can be fulfilled via a home office or telecommuting situation. Please review the job description below and spread the word!

The Director is responsible for administration, fundraising, and vision for IMAP, a national, non-profit membership organization that helps non-profit institutions and artists/producers care for and preserve their electronic media collections.

Qualifications

* Recognized leader in the fledgling field of independent media preservation, providing leadership, vision, and strategic planning
* Expertise in archival management and media arts preservation, with experience in grant writing, non-profit administration, and fundraising. Knowledge expected in cataloging principles, media asset management, grant reporting, general accounting, as well as issues pertinent to the independent media arts field.
* Minimum two years experience in non-profit management.
* MLS and teaching experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

* Promote and develop IMAP as a leader in the field of independent media preservation
* Market IMAP Cataloging Templates, provide instruction in their use, oversee sales and distribution
* Facilitate development of independent media community's involvement in national cataloging initiatives
* Maintain currency of media preservation website, www.imappreserve.org
* Conceive and implement educational public programming, workshops, panel discussions, and training
* Grant writing for major IMAP initiatives and project supervision
* Raise operating and project funds, and maintain productive relationships with funders
* Manage annual budget, expenditures, and oversee fiscal management and reporting
* Develop membership, maintain member database and communication
* Expand reach of IMAP listserv and online communications
* Key liaison to volunteer Board of Directors and Advisory Council

Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP) is a non-profit service, education and advocacy organization committed to non-commercial electronic media. IMAP has grown from a New York-based consortium of arts organizations and individuals to a national resource that provides archivists, artists, conservators, curators, distributors, librarians, media makers, producers, registrars, scholars, and other professionals with solutions to document, preserve, and provide access to media collections.
