You're absolutely right, of course (no pun intended). My question was
more in the vein of: if death isn't given necessarily, then is it
a necessary structure of Dasein qua Dasein and not just of biological
human being? If it's not, then is Heidegger's attempt to use it as
the unifying, authenticizing possibility of Dasein misguided?

Personally, I tend to think that the answer to the first question
is 'yes' and the second 'no,' but then I buy into the whole certainty
of death bit.
