Re: RE: absurd juvenilia

Thanks Marta-

I am on this list because sometimes I find it interesting. But post to it?
Until now, never. In my own life I deal with people who speak like
"Chris," people who appear to enjoy putting people off, by talking with
them face to face, and not running. I'm glad you didn't run away from the
list. There are some good things going on here.

The effects of chris' words are to encourage non-participation on the part
of many people, perhaps not just women. Notice I said "effect," not
"intent." Perhaps chris doesn't care about effect. I don't know him, so
can't shed any light on this.

I have encountered a lot of physical violence in my life, including in
academia. Male professors used to attack women (and young men,for that
matter) pretty frequently, though that seems to be getting better. I think
it may be important to remind people of that on this list. That history
doesn't disappear because this is email. In fact it continues with the
silence of women and with dealing with this issue rather than Heidegger, whom
chris obsures with his comments.

So, Chris: You are obsuring the topics under discussion, at least insofar
as a dialogue which includes women is concerned. That's fine with me, but
thought you might not know.

And you other male folk: Could you stop rising to chris' bait? The
discussion will be much more interesting.

And to Marta: One option is to hit delete whenever you see chris' address
in your mailbox.

With hope-
