Re: Heidegger's lifelong endorsement of 'National Socialism:'
I've always suspected that when Heidegger mentions 'National Socialism'
in later life (at least since Einfuehrung in die Metaphysik) he does
not mean genuinely existing Nazism with its racial-biological
ideology buy rather something closer to a Dostoyevskean identification
of a people with a specific destiny. In other words, 'National
Socialism' is a stand-in for 'the process of the overcoming of
metaphysics destined to be performed by the German people insofar
as they remain the people of _Dichter und Denker_.' Concretely
existing National Socialism would have been a _failed_ overcoming,
an overcoming which failed specifically because of the Nazi's
biological orientation.
