FOR CLARIFICATION OF SCHOOLING FACILITIES IN HOLAMBI
KALAN [FREE SEATS, POST-EVICTION COURT ASSURANCES AND
PRE-EVICTION FACILITIES]

OPEN LETTER
to MCD, GNCTD, DDA and MoUD

Holambi Kalan, New Delhi, 18 February 2004

As per a news report in Hindustan Times of 17
February, pursuant the Court?s order for 25% free
seats Delhi Government and private schools are
discussing a scheme for 15% free seats for class-IV
employees? children, etc, to place before the court.
In some places schools are doing free education in
other ways are avoiding admitting children from
jhuggis in view of ongoing evictions. On the other
hand special arrangements for relocated children till
examinations assured to the court are not in place at
least in Holambi Kalan. Government schools are also
not functioning here as per assurances to the court
about facilities. No arrangements appear to have been
made even for resumption of non-governmental schooling
facilities that were successfully functioning in
Yamuna Pushta. Private schools where students here can
avail 25% or 15% free seats are also not identifiable.

Kindly clarify how legal rights to school education
are being enforced in Holambi Kalan scheme.

Thanking you

Gita Dewan Verma, Planner, 1356 D-I, Vasant Kunj, New
Delhi ? 110070 (w.r.t. WP 8954/2003)
