Railways to Give Infrastructure Support to the Metro

The Government has decided to use broad gauge for Delhi Metro to enable the Railways to provide necessary infrastructure support for the project, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Replying to a question, Union Urban Development Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the decision to use broad gauge for the Metro project was taken although the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had recommended standard gauge.
The decision was taken to provide necessary infrastructure support for the project as well as keeping in view the inter-operability needs and to develop future dependence on indigenous capacity.
