There may finally be some good news for the thousands of Sindhis living in
Ulhasnagar, who were to be rendered homeless through the implementation of
the Bombay High Court?s order of demolishing 855 illegally built
buildings. The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) yesterday, held a
meeting to discuss if these buildings could be regularised, through the
Development Control (DC) rules. Confirming the meeting, Vinod Talreja,
deputy mayor, UMC, said, ?We did have a meeting, where we explored ways
through which the DC rules can allow us to regularise these buildings.? He
added that this was being sought on humanitarian grounds: ?How can we let
so many of our people be rendered homeless? Kuchh to karna padega na?? A
senior official of the UMC said, ?We had made a draft of the DC rules
this March and today we finalised them.?.....................
