Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission starts
tomorrow

The process of implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru
National Urban Renewal Mission... will start
tomorrow... with the start of workshops across seven
cities... Lucknow, Guwahati, Jaipur, Hyderabad,
Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata during the next one
month.
Official sources said here today that a Mission
Directorate has been set up in the capital to
coordinate with the state governments and the mission
cities. State governments have been asked to set up
steering committees and nodal agencies to access
central funds under the mission.
The Urban Development Ministry, which is implementig
the sub-mission, Urban Infrastructure and governance,
is in the process of empanelling consultants for
preparation of city development plans and detailed
project reports...

NEW DELHI, DEC 29: The Union urban development
ministry is all set to go ahead with its ambitious
project, the JawaharLal Nehru National Urban Renewal
Mission (JNNURM), intended to develop 63 cities around
the nation, with the setting up of a mission
directorate in the Capital. The directorate will
coordinate with the state governments and the mission
cities. The ministry is also empanelling consultants

A combined investment by the Union government, the
state governments and the urban local bodies of over
Rs one lakh crore is likely to be spent on the
programme. For the financial year 2005-06, around Rs
5,500 crore has been earmarked for the project. The
ministry has already invited proposals under JNNURM
from the states.
