Golden jubilee celebrations get under way

Kurukshetra, January 11
Kurukshetra University began its golden jubilee celebrations today with
honouring two illustrious sons of the country -- Mr E. Sreedharan,
Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and Mr H.K. Dua,
Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group of Publications.
Mr Sreedharan was conferred the honoris causa degree of Doctor of Science
(D.Sc), while Mr Dua was decorated with the honoris causa degree of Doctor
of Literature (D.Lit) at a special convocation here by the Chancellor of
the university, Dr A.R. Kidwai, who is also the Governor of Haryana,
amidst thunderous applause.

In its citation, the university described Mr E. Sreedharan as "a great
architect of modern Indian Railways... and a perfect blend of innovative
ideas and brilliant feats of civil engineering" He "is reckoned among the
most notable of nation-builders today. He is a charismatic craftsman
accustomed to turning ambitious dreams into material reality.
"More than the present-day generation of the country, it is the posterity
that will think of him with love and respect for the miracles of civil
engineering he has hitherto accomplished.
"The rare capability with which he has executed the Metro project,
including many more, has made him a household name", the citation added.
