Market extension becomes bone of contention

A bitter stand-off ensued between officials of the Railway Police Force
(RPF) at Safdarjung and activist Madhu Kishwar and vendors in Sewa Nagar,
New Delhi on January 9. The fracas began when the RPF led by Inspector
Anil Kumar Sen reached the place, apparently on Junior Engineer (JE)
Harish Kumar Anand?s instructions, to remove 'unauthorised' structures
standing on what it claimed to be railway property.

better full-length feature on the fracas and counter fracas endlessly
playing in this hot-spot theatre is the 42p judgment of 7-oct-05 in the
RWA v/s NGO case over it. That, unlike media-pals of Kishwar, gives equal
footage to both sides. In the end neither wins - the market the NGO
desires is not stopped as desired by the RWA. but the judgment is hardly
something for the NGO to trumpet and in some ways albatross around neck.
