K'taka wants more towns under Centre's Urban Renewal Mission

Karnataka today urged the Centre to include Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga
along with Bangalore and Mysore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban
Renewal Mission.
Additional Chief Secretary Malathi Das, addressing the gathering at a
workshop on the Mission here, said of the total Rs 77,856 crore investment
required for infrastructure development in the country, Bangalore city
alone needed Rs 15,000 crore.
Earlier, Union Urban Development Ministry Additional Secretary S M Acharya
exhorted the officials of various ministries to ensure people's
participation at large and put into practice the vision and views evolved
following interactions at the workshop...

Jawaharlal Nehru National Urbran Renewal Mission in 63 cities

The state government's request to include Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga,
along with Bangalore and Mysore under JNNURM is "however, unlikely to be
considered", Acharya said.
The state government's response to the workshop was "very enthusiastic,
with city development plans and detailed project reports being discussed",
he said.
This is the third workshop under JNNURM and would be followed by similar
workshops in Mumbai and Kolkata, Acharya added. PTI
