Way out of Lal Dora: 'demolish, plan, reconstruct'

Esha Roy, Karn Kowshik & ENS
New Delhi, January 28: MCD?s consultants have a solution for the Lal Dora
mess -- demolish, replan, reconstruct. They say property owners can be
given space in other, less congested areas -- under Transferred
Development Rights (TDR) -- so that the existing space is freed for
redevelopment.
The team of town planning experts has taken up Yusuf Sarai village as a
prototype for formulating building by-laws for the rest of the 134
villages in the city... Though Ramkey, the private concern carrying out
the survey, is yet to formulate its concept plan and the final draft of
building by-laws for Yusuf Sarai, its officials say the solution lies in
complete redevelopment using TDR... said Jasveer Singh, general manager,
Ramkey and project incharge... DDA is yet to identify land for TDR which
is also mentioned in the 2021 Delhi Masterplan...

Villagers up in arms against demolitions

Sujay Mehdudia

Mahapanchayat of 360 villages has been convened at Hauz Khas to discuss
Lal Dora issue

NEW DELHI: Strong resentment seems to be brewing in the Capital's rural
belt over the recent Delhi High Court order to raze illegal commercial
properties in the Lal Dora areas of the city...
What has irked the villagers even more is the seeming failure of the
Congress-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi or the Sheila Dikshit
Government to speak on their behalf. Leaders from all the political
parties have been invited to take part in the Mahapanchayat that has been
convened at Hauz Khas village by former Member of Parliament Chaudhary Mir
Singh who also heads the Delhi Gram Vikas Manch...
Stating that no building by-laws were applicable in the rural villages of
the Capital and it was wrong to penalise the villagers, Nationalist
Congress Party MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said it was high time Lal Dora was
reviewed and civic amenities were extended to such areas...
... However, the villagers, who had gathered on Friday at Jia Sarai
village to discuss the situation, asserted that they were strongly against
the builder mafia and they would not oppose demolition of those buildings
that have been constructed by outsiders...

MCD squads to target only big malls and shopping complexes built illegally
in Lal Dora

NEW DELHI: Assuring residents of the Capital's Lal Dora rural areas that
no large-scale demolition would be carried out in their localities as
widely feared, Municipal Commissioner A. K. Nigam on Monday said the civic
body's demolition squads would be targeting only the big malls and
shopping complexes that have come up illegally over the years.
