*Pune, February 17:* OBJECTING to Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer's
allegation that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) may lose out on the
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) due to the roll
back on tax reforms, BJP leaders said that the Municipal Commissioner is to
be blamed if PMC misses out on the funds. The party has also demanded that
Kareer should present all the norms and specifications of the JNNURM project
at the General Body.

BJP leader Ujjwal Keskar said that the decision of implementing the
mandatory and optional reforms lay with the civic body and they were to be
implemented over a period of seven years, in phases.

However,
Keskar alleged that Kareer had gone ahead and given a commitment to the
State and the Centre on the implementation of tax reforms in the first year
itself.

''The decision to implement the reforms lies with the civic body and it was
never informed about the commitment on tax reforms,'' he said.

Meanwhile, Keskar also said that BJP will file a complaint with the deputy
Lokayukta on Monday, since the Urban Development Department (UDD) did not
withdraw its letter issued to PMC.

''The 72-hour deadline given to the State government for withdrawing the
letter is over,'' he said.

The UDD had issued a letter to the PMC over the civic body taking decisions
in contrast to the MoU signed with JNNURM.
