On 28 April, Delhi Regional Chapter of the ITPI organised a panel discussion
on Planning for COmmonwealth Games : Challenges Ahead. Main presentation was
by Sh. B K Jain, DDA who explained that DDAs role is primarily Commonwealth
games village and few sports venues. Planning for other requirements like
transport, hotel infrastructure etc will be the responsibility of the Delhi
Government. Central location of the site was main reason for the location.
He also recalled how the bidding team were taken for a ride on elephants
during their inspection while Delhi was making the bid in 2002-03.
switzerland based consutants had also recommended this site in a study
commissioned for the purpose. Consultants for financial and technical
aspects will be appointed soon. Financial bids were opened on 28 April and
TEchnical Bids are likely to be opened on 10-11 May.
Initially it was considered that after games these units may be given for DU
hostel or may be kept vacant and reused for asiad and olympics. Fianlly it
was decided that private developer will construct the units and give it to
the DDA during commonwealth games and then later on the developer can sell
it.
He also talked about beautification of the city which also included a focus
on villages.
