[mpisgmedia] One lakh houses to be built for Delhi slum dwellers

One lakh houses to be built for Delhi slum dwellers: Union Urban
Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said on Tuesday that Delhi would be
beautified while taking care of the needs of the poor and to this end
100,000 dwelling units would be constructed over the next two years for
rehabilitating slum dwellers. Declaring that "multi-storeyed housing units
would be constructed through public-private partnership on the land
occupied by slum dwellers`` on the lines of the pilot Tehkhand project
undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority, Mr. Reddy said Delhi --
which is a wealthy city in terms of culture, history and heritage -- has
to evolve its own model instead of aping any other city for solving its
problems. In the Tehkhand project in South Delhi, 3,500 units for the
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category and 750 for the Higher Income
Group (HIG) are proposed to be built by private developers on land
provided by DDA.
