citizens to hold meet on Ridge
... Two days before the public hearing on the
controversial Vasant Kunj Mall project, several NGOs
and citizens today met to mobilise public support
against it.
Participants at the meet, including RWAs, Ridge Bachao
Andolan, Citizens for the Preservation of Quarries and
Lakes Wilderness (CPQLW) and students of JNU, signed a
resolution "to preserve the Ridge".
The meeting, organised by Integral Heritage, focussed
on the facts presented by the builders in their
Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report...

Kunj mall starts, environment activists, urban
planners, architects and concerned citizens - under
the banner 'Integral Heritage' - have moved a
resolution, demanding the Centre's intervention to
save and preserve the Ridge forest where the
controversial project is coming up. The group is also
writing to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, asking him
to intervene so the project gets no environmental
clearance.

protected area where no construction can be done,
agencies like the DDA have blatantly violated the

in the Ridge area, they went ahead with the auction.

Asian Age: Villagers told mall reports not in Hindi
...Last week, when the villagers residing adjacent to
the Vasant Kunj ridge areas went to the DPCC office to
get a copy of the executive summary (ES) and
environment impact assessment (EIA) of the
controversial Vasant Kunj shopping mall, they were
shocked. The DPCC officials told them there were no
Hindi versions...
...Screaming foul over the DPCC negligence, green
lobbies such as Ridge Bachao Andolan and Citizens for
Preservation of Quarries and Lakes Wilderness alleged
that there is more than that meets the eye.

TOI, p.4: Villagers want VK mall hearing to be put off
...The public hearing for some of the Vasant Kunj
projects is scheduled for June 19 and 20. Residents
claim this, and other factors, could render the public
hearing redundant.
Said Onkareshwar Kumar, part of the NGO Ridge Bachao
Andolan, "Being working days, it will mean that most
of the residents of the villages affected will not be
able to attend the hearing. Also, the hearing is being
held quite far...
There are other objections about the public hearing as
well. Residents complain that a Hind copy of the
environment impact assessment (EIA) report summary
made by the builders has not been made available...

village which is adjacent to the mall sites...
