MG Road investors in trouble, street remains illegal

Deepak Kumar Jha | New Delhi

Here's a bad news for those who have invested crores
of rupees on MG Road in south Delhi area. The main
road connecting Delhi and Gurgaon had witnessed huge
influx of money from the fashion fraternity, MNCs and
others hoping that it may be regularised. But for now
the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has put in
abeyance the inclusion of MG Road in its recent
approval of about 2200 roads/streets...
... Chief Town Planner (CTP) MK Bugga said ... "The
road comes under rural area. The Union Government is
silent regarding the notification of rural areas and
several unauthorised colonies of the city. That is why
MG road may be not be included either in commercial or
mixed land use category list," ... Sources said that
the corporation is waiting for recommendations of the
Srivastava Committee formed for the rural area of
Delhi. It is likely to submit the report in three
months time.

What if a colony is upgraded?

... There are several stretches of Master Plan roads
passing through rural settlements like Ghitorni and
Samalkha that have been commercialised more than 70
per cent. During the court-initiated crackdown against
illegal commercialisation of residential colonies, MCD
officials had sealed several buildings in rural
villages. "However, these roads were not considered
for allowing commercial use in residential colonies on
the ground the Master Plan does not apply to rural
areas," said MLA Vijay Singh Lochav...
