'Agents selling property by deception
will be past'

The much-awaited real estate bill is all set to be tabled in
the Parliament. However, thatʼs not the only concern for the Union urban
development ministry, which is also giving final touches to Delhiʼs
preparations for the Commonwealth games in 2010. Ajay Maken, minister of state
for urban development.

How do you see the new real estate Bill as a measure to
curb unfair trade practices?

The bill is to regulate and control the activities relating to the development
and management of colonies and promotion of construction, sale, transfer and
management of buildings and other similar properties. The whole idea is to
protect the public interest in relation to the conduct and integrity of
promoters and other persons engaged in the development of such colonies or
construction of such buildings.

court cases involving family disputes and unclear land titles will soon be a
thing of the past. My ministryʼs endeavour is to protect consumers by creating
a statutory regulator for the real estate sector.
