*Ahmedabad, January 3:* The Congress in the AMC has taken strong exception
to Chief Minister Narendra Modi alleging the Centre meting out injustice to
Gujarat on funds allocation. Reacting to Modi's remarks made on Tuesday
evening at the foundation laying of two split flyovers in the city, AMC
Congress leader Himmatsinh Patel said Modi should not spread falsehood from
public fora.

In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Patel said that Modi, by making
such allegations, was misleading people of Gujarat. ''Never before in the
history of Gujarat the Centre made such large scale allocations as under the
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) which amounted to
over Rs 1,000 crore for various projects'', said Patel.

He compared this with the NDA regime when despite holding post of Deputy
Prime Minister and representing Gujarat, L K Advani never came forward to
help the State ''which people know very well''. Patel reminded Modi that the
Centre had sanctioned Rs 303 crore for Shahri Garib Avas Yojana and Rs 1,000
crore for JNNURM approved projects in the State. ''This includes the Rs 483
crore for BRTS project under which the foundation was being laid for split
bridges at Soni-ni-Chal crossroad and on Thakkarbapanagar Road'', he
informed Modi. ''It is unbecoming of the Chief Minister to spread falsehood
about the very scheme approved by the Centre on which he was speaking'',
Patel said. Patel asked Modi that when southern states were dragging Central
funds to them during NDA regime, why did the BJP leaders kept mum about
funds not coming to Gujarat?

*Maharashtra wins maximum urban reform approvals*

New Delhi, Dec 6. (PTI): Maharashtra has won the maximum number of Central
approvals to requests for projects under the prestigious Rs 1,00,000-crore
Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) launched by Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh in 2005.

According to the latest State-wise details of JNNURM approvals, the Centre
has sanctioned 34 projects worth Rs 3,848.36 crore for Maharashtra followed
by 24 worth Rs 1,433.96 crore for Gujarat.

The JNNURM, which aims to encourage cities to improve service levels in a
financially sustainable manner, has urban infrastructure and governance and
basic services to the urban poor as its sub-missions.

It also aims at developing a regulatory framework and increase credit
worthiness of municipalities besides integrating the poor with the service
delivery system.

Sources in the Union Urban Development Ministry said, 60 of the 63 cities
enlisted in the JNNURM have submitted city development plans.

Of them 43 have been appraised while 17, including Delhi's, are still under
appraisal.

The Centre has fixed Rs 50,000 crore as its total share for the mission
period of seven years with Rs 2,500 crore set aside in the budget provision
for this fiscal.
