Delhi gets award for proper relocation

- By Our Correspondent

New Delhi, Oct. 26: The Delhi government has once again received an award
for its outstanding performance in the power sector reforms. Delhi also
got an award for proper relocation of industries.

The award has been conferred by a Mumbai-based organisation, India Tech
Foundation. Delhi power and industry ministers Haroon Yusuf and Mangat Ram
Singhal will receive the award on Wednesday.

Mr Yusuf said: "It's a matter of great satisfaction that Delhi has got
this award for the second time. One of the first major steps taken by the
Delhi government was to bring out a Strategy Paper on Power Sector Reforms
in February 1999. There followed a unique, innovative yet fasttrack reform
process that ultimately resulted in the unbundling of the DVB and
privatisation of distribution with effect from July 1, 2002. The Delhi
power sector reforms are now being widely acclaimed."
