Re: Pure Immanence

Hmmm...I'm new to this list but, I'm not going to let
the recent post by "genet son of genet" pass without
comment.

First, I think that everyone who is familiar with the
works of Deleuze and Guattari realize that they were
always quite meticulous about referencing their
sources. I've never heard of them being accused of
plagiarism but, if someone thinks that it is so then I
would be interested in hearing why they would say
this. Everyone should realize that Deleuze expected
people to look under the fingernails of philosophers
(a process best left, admittedly, until after their
deaths).

Next: "Would someone shut this cunt up?"...what is
that about? This is the sort of comment I would expect
to overhear in a place like Vancouver's lower east
side; a place where despair, drugs, and death weave an
immediacy of need and violence; where attention is a
valued commodity due to the illicit nature of the
desires which drive it and shape the
brevity-in-expression that such illegality demands. Of
course, where people "dust" - grind up any sort of
pills they can find to substitute for the heroin and
cocaine they crave but can't afford; and where eleven
and twelve year olds hook to feed habits forced upon
them by pimps who think of them as "gash", you'd
expect sex and violence to form an expressive norm.
That isn't nice but, it is authentic in that
context...the sort of context where everyday, people
are beaten up badly enough to require hospitalization;
where people are killed about twice a week: and where
a spoon is something that is used to keep people from
swallowing their tongues when a particularly strong
hit of heroin floods their bloodstreams.

But even those who are caught in the fro's of the
worst of black holes have wonderful relatives who are
happy to see one drop by for a nice cup of herbal tea
occasionally...as long as one isn't acting like an
asshole.

Since it seems we all have the right to say what we
want here, I am going to say that "genet son of genet"
speaks as if from a situation where attention is/was
rare; so, to have learned to shock and dominate, to
invite collusion by using a term like "cunt" in such a
white-middle-class-male of a way while seemingly
'defending' what appears to be a personal investment
in an idealized image of Deleuze...well, that sort of
despotic territoriality tells me that "genet son of
genet" is REALLY going in the wrong direction when it
comes to the sort of material this list is meant to
cover.

I don't think that impresses anyone here; quite the
opposite.
